Moon Geun-young confirms role in weekend TV series Cheongdamdong Alice
Korean actress Moon Geun-young is gearing up to step back into the spotlight after her two-year hiatus by starring as the female lead in an upcoming SBS TV series.
Namoo Actors officials announced in a press release Thursday that Moon will play the role of Han Se-kyung in SBS' forthcoming weekend drama "Alice of Cheongdam-dong" [translated title].
This will be the actress' new project on her plate in two years as she has been taking a long break from acting in the small screen after starring in "Marry Me, Mary" (KBS, 2010), opposite actor Jang Keun-suk.
"Alice of Cheongdam-dong," which still is far from its premiere scheduled after Ju Ji-hoon's "Five Finger" ends the run in December, tells the story of Han, who lives each day with the motto "Strive for your dream to succeed."
After facing many difficulties in her life, she start working at an apparel company that copies designers' clothes.
The series will be directed by producer Cho Soo-won of "Swallow the Sun" (SBS, 2009) and the writing duo Kim Ji-woon and Kim Jin-hee of "Queen Seon-duk" (MBC, 2009) and historical series "Deep Rooted Tree" (SBS, 2012).
Moon, whose growth as a person and actor has been wide open to the public after debuting at the age of 13 in 1999, first gained public attention by playing the child days of the female lead in the popular 2000 drama "Autumn Tale," starring Hallyu stars Song Seung-heon, Song Hye-kyo and Won Bin.
She quickly shot to stardom and solidified her position as a talented child actor after starring in the hit horror film "A Tale of Two Sisters" (2003), "My Little Bride" (2004) and "Dancing Princess" (2005).
It is only recently that she got rid of her younger sister-like image and widened the spectrum of her roles by starring in KBS' "Sister of Cinderella" (KBS, 2010) and "Marry Me, Mary."
